Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Beatrice. She was one of 12 puppies born in a home to Mommy Princess in North Bay. Mommy and her litter and 19 other hounds were confiscated from their home and surrendered to the Humane Society. Barks and Meows Rescue took Mommy Princess as well as Charlotte and her sister Beatrice. These pups are definitely Black and Tan Coonhounds. Beatrice enjoys her food but doesn't eat as much as her sister Charlotte currently. Both girls are food motivated which really helps with training. They spend most of their time playing with each other and enjoy the company of the other dogs in their foster home. They usually sleep in an open door crate with their Mom. The girls are both fed together in a crate and are eating Royal Canin Medium Breed Puppy food. They have lots of fun with all sorts of toys and get bored easily so toys are rotated. Beatrice is about two pounds less than her sister. Mommy Princess is 55lbs so we expect these girls to be medium size dogs when fully grown. They have both had their first and second set of vaccines and been dewormed. The sisters are both on Heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Both of these girls have umbilical hernias which will be repaired by our Veterinarian Clinic at the time of spay. Barks and Meows Rescue will pay for their spays and hernia repairs at our clinic at 6 months of age. It's very difficult to tell these two apart unless they are side by side or you lift them up due to the size difference. Both girls love to be held and cuddled. They are also paper trained. They will require their rabies vaccine at 4 months of age. The ideal home for them is a family that has or has had hounds in the past. This breed is not for everyone as they can never be off-leash unless in a fully fenced yard with the correct height. They are pure hounds so will follow their nose. Going for hikes and walks each time will be an adventure as they will stop to smell everything. The family must commit to a Barks and Meows Rescue-approved positive reinforcement obedience training facility which will be duly noted in the contract. A cat-free home would be best as they will have a very high prey drive. A fully fenced yard (wooden, not chain-link) and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for darling Beatrice. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6.
