Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Denim. He was the only pup that survived his Mommy Velvet's litter. The other pup passed before wegot there when they were 24 hours old. Mommy Velvet was a shep cattledog mix we believe.
Denim has grown into a large muscular Shepherd. This is the first dog we have fostered that must be allowed to be outside in our fenced yard all day long in nice weather. He has the company of our Pyranese/Bouvier mix who is the keeper of the home. Denim does not bark outside at all,even when a stranger comes to the fence. He leaves that job to our other dog. He was born in the wild and thats where he needs to be For this reason, the ideal home would have to be either a farm or a country property with acerage. He goes out at 7:30am and will not come back in easily until it gets dark.
He has always had one ear up and one that points sideways. He is intelligent but really is fairly high energy due to his breed mix. He has strong herding tendancies. He has not been around children since he was a puppy. He has been good with the other foster dogs in the home as they are all well socialized.
Denim has had no leash training. That would be new to him. Due to his working abilities and high energy, going for long walks would not suffice. Running around on a farm with family members would make him so happy. He would be fine as an only dog in that type of environment. He goes stir crazy if he has to stay inside on nice days. If he was in scent training or something where he truly has a job to do, he would excel we are sure.
He loves to carry sticks in his mouth in our yard, There are never any squirrels for him to chase so he just burns energy playing with out dog outside. He doesn't mind rain but we insist he come in from the elements. Denim loves his people and would be protective of them if necessary. He is not crated and no destructive in the home. He is affectionate with his family members.
Denim has good recall and know his basic commands. He thrives on routine and eats 5 cups of food a day containing grains. He sleeps on a doggie bed in the family room. He is housebroken. His is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and on flea/tick prevention.
Perfect dog for big country property or a crop farm.
