Barks and Meows Rescue introduces sweet Winnie. She came to us and her 3 siblings from a Humane Society via PAWS. Her Mom in the attached photo appears to be a Maremma and all we know about the Dad is that he was black and lived on the same property. The Mom is 63lbs but these pups have small pups so we do not believe they will reach their Mom's size. We estimate that they will be mid-size dogs when fully grown.
Winnie and her siblings came to us very timid, not having had much human contact, other than their short stay at the shelter. They did learn their names there nut were on the thin side. They are getting used to being picked up and cuddled and will now come to you when you call their name. Don't let the photos attached fool you, Winnie had just had a bath so her coat was damp, but she is extra fluffy!
She gets warm easily so air conditioning is her best friend. She cannot stay out in the sun because of her black coat but loves being outside in the shade. She is paper-trained but prefers to go outside. She enjoys her food and is eating Royal Canin Medium Breed Puppy food. Winnie is fed in her crate and sleeps in it with the door open. She loves to drink since she gets warm easily and does well in her bath.
The ideal home for this fluffball, would be more on the quiet side. She is not used to city life, so everything for her will be new. One-on-one attention will be key for her so she can recognize that she is part of the family pact, not just a visitor. A secondary socialized resident canine would be beneficial in helping her with her confidence-building in conjunction with obedience training.
On June 14, she will receive her second set of vaccines including Lyme, Lepto, and Bordetella, and be microchipped.
A fully fenced yard or farm is mandatory to apply for our Winnie.
Thank you Steven Taylor Photography for these adorable studio shots!
