Vandy

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Vandy. We believe she is a Schnauzer/Poodle and is hypoallergenic. She is 8 1/2 years old. She was found as a stray and our Rescue pulled her from the shelter. She has the curly coat of a poodle requiring grooming every 6 weeks. Vandy was found with another dog who was believed to be her son. Both she and her son were adopted out but Vandy was very protective of her son. Her son was very timid as Mom always stood up for him. It was decided they would both be better off without one another. Since Vandy left her previous home, her son has flourished and come out of his shell. Vandy went onto a foster home with other dogs and fit in perfectly. In her foster home, she was not protective at all of any of the other dogs. Vandy does have the hair coat of a poodle but the longer body of the Schnauzer. She has the overbite of one as well. She adores being with her family. She is the happiest when sitting and sleeping with them. Vandy requires a lot of socialization as she will become protective of her family. A family with knowledge on how to deal with this type of dog is key. She is crate trained but doesn't require one. She is both housebroken and paper trained. She can be a fussy eater. Vandy eats twice daily, dry food only. Once in a while, she likes canned food added but soon tires of it, Vandy loves to be picked up and cuddled and rolls on her back constantly for belly rubs. Vandy does not like cats nor has she had any contact with children in her life thus far. Bothe the groomer and our vet said she was excellent to work with. She sleeps on the couch or the bed with her foster family. She will bark when you are getting food ready, when you come home or when she is very excited. She stops once you tell her to do so. The ideal home should be one where there are no children since she has not been exposed to them or cats. A home knowledgeable of the Schnauzer breed would be ideal as she possesses more traits of that breed than the poodle. Vandy is spayed, fully vaccinated and 4DX tested negative, She is also microchipped. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance is mandatory to apply for Vandy.
