Sonar

Hi! My Name Is Sonar

We're happy to tell you that Sonar has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Sonar.  He is one of 8 pups born on a farm.  The Mother of the litter is an Australian Cattle Dog and the father is a Catahoula mix.  He was born on Dec 17, 2023.  Sonar has a short hair coat and is estimated to be at least 60 lbs when fully grown.  Sonar looks like the father who is a Catahoula Mix.

Sonar has come out of his shell quickly since arriving in our Rescue.  Having come from being raised in a barn, the litter had not been socialized well.  He was more timid than his sister, Sonnet, but learned from the other dogs in his foster home to trust humans.  Luckily he is also quite food motivated so that has helped with his trust factor.

Sonar is a beautiful red colour, with fairly long legs.  He did wonderfully in the bathtub and being crated in the car.  He likes to talk with the other pups in the home when playing but he is not a high-energy pup yet....  He enjoys playing with tug-of-war-type toys with the other dogs.  His short haircoat makes grooming a non-issue and his adorable wrinkly forehead invites many kisses from his foster family.

He is currently eating Iams Small Breed Puppy food with some warm water.  He enjoys some canned food in it for a treat.  He is fed three times daily.  He doesn't mind being picked up and doesn't struggle.  He sleeps on a Karunda Bed at night.

The ideal home for Sonar, would be one with another confident dog but he certainly could be an only dog as well.  This breed mix will be active as they get old so they are not suitable for families who are not active with their furry family members.  Continued socialization with people and dogs is a must.  Obedience training using positive reinforcement will be key as the ACD can be independent and strong-willed. This breed is not suitable for apartment living.

On Mar 7, Sonar had his second set of vaccines, including Lyme, Lepto, and Bordetella.  He was given Nexguard Spectra.  He has also been dewormed. He weighed 8 Kg.

A fully fenced yard or a working farm is mandatory to apply for our Sonar.

A huge thank you to Melissa Caron Photography for these stunning photos!
