Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Savannah. She is a 3-year-old lab/heeler mix weighing 59lbs. She had medium-length fur and was returned to the shelter, fully pregnant, after being adopted from the very same shelter years before as a puppy. We pulled Savannah from the shelter already fully pregnant. She gave birth to 8 beautiful babies on June 11. It was obvious she had given birth a few times beforehand. Savannah was a wonderful Mom and gave those babies all she had. After the puppies finished weaning, Mommy Savannah was introduced to the other dogs in the home. She had never learned to play with other dogs and now she enjoys being with them immensely. Before her last baby Channel went to another foster home, she learned to play very nicely with her daughter and in turn taught her how to play with other dogs. Savannah loves adults and children. She is gentle and caring, takes treats nicely and knows her manners. Savannah is incredibly intelligent, attributed to her breed mix. All dogs who give birth, enter a chewing stage if bored and it can last from a month to a year, all dependent on hormones. Savannah is in this stage. She is crate trained and stays in a crate when her foster family is not home. She enjoys laying on a doggie bed in her parent's room at night. This breed mix needs stimulation and a job to do. Obedience training would do wonders for her mentally and she will excel. She is food motivated making training easy. She is housebroken and also paper trained, this being necessary when whelping. Savannah is a quiet dog, typical of the heeler. She would jump out of the whelping area sometimes so she is clever. She is a mid energy gal. The ideal home for Savannah will be one when bonded, she can go for lots of hikes and explore the countryside off-leash. Until then lots of walks and obedience training will make her the perfect family member. Currently, she walks well on a leash and does well playing with dogs at the dog park. Savannah is spayed, fully vaccinated, 4dx tested negative and on Heartworm flea/tick prevention. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory to apply for Savannah.
