Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Max, who is an Australian Shepherd Lab Mix, and will be 9 months old on July 30th, 2020. He is approx 53lbs and probably not likely to get too much bigger but he is still growing. Max was surrendered has his previous home did not have a fenced yard and the children that were in the home part-time, had allergic reactions to him. He is housebroken and knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come but would benefit from going to Obedience classes. Max loves to play tug of war and fetch, he loves to go for walks and loves playing and jumping/chasing the water from the hose. Bath time? Not a fan. Thunderstorms? Who cares! Fireworks? Meh. Max is not a fan of going in the car but will sit nicely on car rides. This boy is very strong so would need a home with older children. He enjoys all four children in the foster home and has been amazing with them. They are 12-15 years old. He loves all dogs he meets so he would benefit from having another playful dog in the home. Another dog will help teach him the rules and boundaries of the home and help keep him stimulated with daily canine playtime. Max eats well and does go in a crate when the family eats because he thinks their food is his too. He is very high energy. He is still a puppy and chews anything and everything he sees so will need someone with patience and a willingness to train him. He is very vocal when being left alone in the mornings when the foster parents leave for work but when the kids get up he is fine. He likes to be with the family members at all times. He sleeps on the doggie bed right outside of the room of the youngest but we are sure he would gladly sleep in the bed with him. Unfortunately, he does not share the bed very well. He is currently eating Royal Canin Medium Breed puppy food twice daily. The ideal home for Maxwell will be one with another well-socialized canine. He will require a family that is home a fair amount. Children will be great as well but older ones at this point until he is out of the adolescent stage. A cat free home is necessary. Max is neutered, up to date with vaccines, and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. A fully fenced yard, a Veterinarian History of Compliance and another dog is mandatory in order to apply for Max.
