Max

Hi! My Name Is Max

We're happy to tell you that Max has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Max. He is a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd mix weighing 59lbs.  He has a medium hair-length coat and was surrendered due to a child allergy. Max is a wonderful happy fellow.  He loves to play, especially with other dogs.  He enjoys playing and the company of all dogs, regardless of size.  He definitely needs a job to do inherent to his breed mix.  He is very smart and has been known to take things and not want to give them back when bored.  Max will excel in obedience training and would do great going on to high levels.  He knows his basic commands down pat and walks quite well on a harness lead.  He would be a good candidate for a running dog.  This breed requires a minimum of 2 hours of outside stimulus a day so boredom doesn't sink in.  A herding ball or a Jolly ball is a great source of stimulation for them and can steer them away from trying to herd people.  Playing Frisbee is great exercise and fun for this breed as well.   You can teach this breed to play fetch once they have mastered the drop it command.    He has excellent recall so hikes, where there is open space for them to run around and sniff, are great. Max is fed 2 cups of food twice daily and requires food with grain in it.  He is crate trained but doesn't require it. He enjoys all sorts of toys. He is good with visitors in the home.  As long as he is exercised enough, he is a wonderful boy.  Max is housebroken and ready to rock and roll as soon as he wakes up. The ideal home for Max is one with another dog to play with.  His family must be involved in activities with their dogs outside of their home.  Just a couple of walks a day won't suffice for this breed mix.  Herding breeds do best with children over the age of 10 so they don't try to herd them.  He has lived with two cats but will chase them when bored so a cat-free home is best.  We bet he would love cottage life. Max is neutered, up to date with vaccines, 4dx tested negative, and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention during heartworm season. A wooden fully fenced yard, another socialized dog, and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for our Max.
