Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Laxton. He arrived from a local Kennel where he, Pebbles, and Bam Bam, came via an owner surrender from a First Nations Community. We believe him to be a Great Pyrenees/Husky mix, which our vets also thought. He has a very wavy thick coat and is starting to get a mask. We are estimating he will reach 85 lb when fully grown.
Laxton has one of the most endearing natures. He is sweet and listens quite well. His love of food is endless so his food is measured three times daily. He is currently on a mixture of Loveabowl and Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy food. He has a great time playing with the other dogs and enjoying the cool weather. He does get warm easily. When he sleeps, he sleeps hard and prefers the cooler laminate flooring to a doggie bed. Laxton will play with all sorts of toys, especially those he can play tug of war with. Laxton is affectionate and great in the bathtub. He will sit on command and was excellent for his photo shoot. His baby teeth are razor sharp so bully sticks will help his new family get him through the chewing stage.
Laxton will do well in a home with lots of trees, due to his thick hair coat. He will be a dog that would rather lay in the yard in the cooler weather and want to stay out in the hot weather. He has not been exposed to cats but if exposed soon, to dog-savvy cats, he will do great. His love of other dogs is endless.
The ideal home for our Laxton is where the family will take him out for socialization each day unless it is too warm. His breed mix is one where he may eventually be protective of the home so continued outings with people will be important. He would love another socialized resident dog to have a buddy with, but it is not mandatory. He is not a jumper so a fence that is a minimum of 5 feet high will suffice.
Laxton is like a big fluffy Teddy Bear, with a personality to match. He will make a wonderful, new family member who will love you always.
Laxton has had his first and second series of vaccines, including Lepto and Lyme. On April 20 he weighed 11.3 kg. He will be microchipped shortly.
UPDATE: Final set of vaccines given on May 18. He weighed 16.9 kg.
A fully fenced yard or farm is mandatory to apply for our Laxton.
Thanks very much to Melissa Caron Photography for these beautiful Springtime photos!
