Barks and Meows Rescues introduces Franklin. He is a 1 1/2-year-old French Bulldog. Franklin weighs 22lbs. He was an owner surrendered and purchased from a breeder as a puppy.
Franklin came to our Rescue when his original family realized he was not the right fit for their home. They had two small toddlers and he was constantly jumping up on them to grab things out of their hands and not always very nice. He also would sit under the highchair and not want to leave due to the kids dropping food. He did not get along at all with the relative's dogs who frequented the cottage.
Having now been in our care, we can attest to the fact that he is dog selective. He is fearless and is not afraid to jump up on the foster's family 150lb dog. He can be aggressive with dogs he doesn't like so we are looking for him to be adopted into an only dog home. He is a people dog and enjoys family members and all their friends. He is so very typical of the breed. Fairly high energy, stubborn and loveable. He is dominant and if he chooses not to want to do something on command he won't. He was crated when the family was not home so is not a fan of the crate. He is not destructive so has not been crated in his foster home. He is a hoover vacuum when it comes to food so his food is carefully measured out. He is eating 1 cup twice daily of Performatrin Adult Chicken and Rice. He has a high metabolism so that amount of food is perfect for him. He can sit and give a paw and is very loving. He will give sweet kisses when you ask for one.
Franklin is housebroken as well as pee pad trained. He was a good boy for his photoshoot and was off lead at the time out in the backyard. He loves to run all over and is very fast. This boy rides very well in the vehicle and doesn't get car sick. He doesn't mind the snow at all. He has never been exposed to cats so will require a cat-free home.
He enjoys sleeping on the bed at night but if you insist, he will sleep on a doggie bed beside your bed. He takes treats very gently and is a real cuddlebug. Franklin is still at the age of enjoying all sorts of toys which is great to help keep him busy.
According to his previous Vet records he is healthy but a luxtating patella is noted. This is a common trait for this breed as per our own vet and he shows no signs or symptoms of discomfort.
The ideal home for Franklin is one where the family has owned this breed or at the very least a bully breed in the past. A family that has the time for more training, specifically leash training is important. Children in the home would be fine but they would have to be 10 years plus. We are not looking for a family that is going to crate him while they are at work. He needs to be with his family members a lot, including in their activities both inside and outside of their home.
Franklin is neutered, up to date with vaccines, dewormed and microchipped.
The following is a list of the mandatory requirements needed in order to apply for our Franklin:
cat free, dog-free home
A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance
History of owning this breed or a bully breed in the past and have had positive experiences with the dog
A fully fenced backyard
