Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Drake. he is an 18-month-old Feist. Drake weighs 24 lbs. He has a short hair coat and was pulled from a shelter to make room for the Hurricane relief dogs. Drake is a bundle of joy and brings lots of laughter to his foster family's home. He has the energy level of the Jack Russell Terrier but has found him extremely social with all dogs. He is constantly playing with toys, looking for treats and playing with the other dogs in the foster home. Drake is also very affectionate. He is very smart and will benefit from one on one attention. Drake is crate trained but would rather not use it. He is still an adolescent so I would recommend he be in a crate when the family is not around. This type of dog was bred for hunting purposes but we do not see any prey drive in him thus far. This fellow is quite the cuddler. He loves children and has learned not to mouth people. He is excellent in the vehicle. He doesn't care for cats. Drake does need more work on a leash. He follows his nose, is always hungry so his food is measured out twice daily and he cannot be trusted alone in the kitchen not to counter surf. The ideal home for Drake will be one where the family is active with their dogs. He would love to go on hikes and walks with his family, and one day, we believe, he will be able to be off-leash on these excursions once he has bonded with the family. Due to his intelligence, he likes constructive games and tasks to keep his mind sharp. A family willing to spend time training him will be very pleased at how quickly he will train. He is both food and praise motivated and loves to please his family. Drake is neutered, up to date with vaccines, heartworm tested negative and on flea and heartworm prevention. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance is mandatory in order to apply for our Drake.
