Dixie

Hi! My Name Is Dixie

We're happy to tell you that Dixie has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Dixie.  She is a 2 year old Shepherd mix, weighing about 53lbs.  She has a medium hair coat and was surrendered to Rescue after being tied on a chain her entire life. Dixie is just one fantastic sweetheart.  Granted she is a go-getter who can't decide whether she wants to continue to kiss and cuddle with her family members or play with other dogs.  She is fantastic with all dogs.  Dixie is a very social butterfly.  She loves children and adults.  She is still a bit mouthy but her foster home is working on that.  She loves to give kisses and is an energetic cuddler.  Her foster family is helping her to learn how to walk on a leash as that is a new challenge for her.  She enjoys sniffing and going in all directions.  She also enjoys playing in the water.  Dixie is very food motivated and eager to please.  She is incredibly smart and easily trained.  She is crate trained and housebroken.  As she is an adolescent, she is currently crated in her foster home if the whole family is out.  The children in her home are 9,13 and 15.  This is a good age for her as she can be a tad bit too exuberant for small children.    She loves to chew so making sure she has access to bones and toys to chew will minimize clothing, socks casualties.  She is great off-leash at the dog park and has good recall with minimal training.  She has the smarts of a shepherd. The ideal home for Dixie is one with older children and or another socialized dog.  Due to her energy level, the family should be a fairly active one with their pets. Dixie is spayed, 4dx tested negative, up to date with vaccines, and dewormed. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory in order to apply for our Dixie.
