Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Chopper. He is a 6-year-old Basset Hound mix, a low rider that is black with some white in colour. he currently weighs 57 lb. He has a short haircoat. He was surrendered to a shelter when his wonder died.
Chopper is a delightful, happy boy. It is a joy to see him playing fetch, which he will do for hours, and playing with squeaky toys. He will pick those ones right out of the toy box. It amuses him for long periods of time. He came to our Rescue after having been at the Shelter for 3 months when his owner passed away. He has been no trouble and we were told he absolutely does not like cats. He is a very low rider so doesn't bother the birds in his current foster home. He is okay in the vehicle and does not get carsick. Currently, he weighs 57 lb, after being over 60 lb when he initially came into the shelter. He is still too heavy so is currently on a strict diet of Natural Balance, Fat Dog, food, measured out twice daily.
Chopper is a very strong boy, just like any other Basset Mix. He will need to always be on a harness, which will come with him when he gets adopted. Due to being a hound mix, he will not be allowed off-leash unless in a fully fenced area. Like any hound, he will follow his nose, regardless of how bonded he is with his family.
This boy does very well with other dogs, of all sizes. He is quite social. He sleeps on a doggie bed each night, and his owners will have no worries of him countersurfing. LOL.
We were told he does NOT like cats so his new home must be cat-free. The ideal home for Chopper is one where the family will work with their Veterinarian to get him down to his ideal weight. A family that gets him lots of exercise through multiple walks each day, and playing fetch outside will make all the difference. Due to how strong he is, any children in the home should be over 6 years old.
Chopper is neutered, up to date with vaccines, 4dx tested negative, microchipped, and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention.
A fully fenced yard is mandatory to apply for our Chopper.
