Cherry

Hi! My Name Is Cherry

We're happy to tell you that Cherry has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Mommy Cherry.  She is 1 1/2 years old and had 11 puppies in the care of our Rescue.  She has a short-medium hair coat.  She was left at an RV campsite already pregnant when found by Rescuers. DNA tests reveal she is 3/4 Australian Cattle Dog and 1/4 Terrier.   Mommy Cherry has been a wonderful gal to watch grow from having her first and last litter, of 11 babies and become independent of them once she no longer could nurse them.   She was a fabulous first-time Mom, keeping her babies, clean and well-fed.  She is actually fostered in the same home as the last of her available siblings, Mango.  She doesn't play with him at all, she much prefers to run around the yard chasing flies, bees, and hornets.  This is due to her breed mix.  She is a heeler and is looking to herd things.  She is good with the other dogs in the home and enjoys their company. Cherry weighs 38lbs and is fed 1 cup of food twice daily.  She is active but not over the top high energy.  She is very smart and should be enrolled in obedience training with her new family.  Cherry is very food motivated and will do great in positive reinforcement training, including clicker training.  She loves children and is gentle and sweet.  She needs a lot of work on learning to walk on a leash as she currently lives on a country property.  She tends to get nauseous in the vehicle so should be driven on an empty stomach.  She would gladly sleep in bed with any family member. Cherry will make a wonderful addition to a family.  She doesn't require another dog in the home.  The ideal home for Cherry is one where her family takes her for walks and hikes, participates in class obedience training, and plays outdoor yard games with her. A cat-free home is mandatory as we do not know how she is with cats.  She is housebroken and does not require crating.   Strong knowledge of the herding breed is a necessity to ensure she receives the stimuli to make her the best dog she can be. Cherry is spayed, up to date with vaccines, and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. A wooden fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for Cherry.
