Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Bear 2. He is a Dutch Shepherd mix who is 2 years old. Bear weighs 58.5lb. He was adopted out by a local shelter to a security company but was returned for being too nice. Bear's original owner surrendered hi to the shelter as he had separation anxiety. Bear had to have his toe amputated when he caught it on the crate at the security company. Shortly thereafter, he entered our Rescue where he had to have multiple bandage changes and staples removal through our Veterinarian, As advised by the shelter he requires sedation for any kind of work up involving a vet. This will be the standard protocol required going forward, anytime a Vet needs to see him. His foot has now healed and he doesn't have any issues without the toe. Bear is incredibly smart and agile. He does very well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. He has a very soft brindle coat. LIne any Shepherd, Bear needs a job to do. He would do well in agility or scent training. He is very focused when being talked to one on one making training easy. He walks quite well on a leash and rides very well in the car, He eats 1 1/2 cups of dry food twice daily. He is very affectionate and sleeps on his foster parent's bed. He does very well with children but would recommend over 7 so he doesn't bowl them over. Bear listens well and is very sensitive. He wants to please his family. He does not require crating and recommends not doing so since he caught his toe on one before. He can jump quite high and would most likely do anything to escape the crate. The ideal home for Bear is one where the family is home enough and willing to take him to classes such as obedience, scent training, agility, etc. A second well-socialized dog would be a bonus. He does not like cats! A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory in order to apply for Bear. A farm property will be considered depending on the Dynamics of the home. Bear is neutered, 4dx tested negative, up to date with vaccines and on heartworm prevention.
