Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Tonka.  He is a 117 lb Great Pyranees.  He is 6 years old.  He was surrendered to the vets because his elderly owners could no longer look after him.

Tonka is just the sweetest boy.  He had to be shaved down as he was so heavily matted.  Eventually he will have long flowing fur again so regular grooming will be a must.  He has big beautiful brown eyes like a big teddy bear.  He
gets lots of daily hugs from his foster family.  He loves the outdoors but is definitely an indoor boy.

Tonka has a very gentle nature.  He is wonderful with dogs of all sizes.  We do not know how he is with cats.  Tonka is great with children.  He has a calm demeanor.  Typical of his breed his appetite is finicky unless he gets canned food added to it.  He is very strong on the leash.  He will require more practice with walks and will need a body harness and lead.  He loves being in the car and rides very well in the vehicle.

The ideal home for Tonka is a family that is home more often than not.  He does not need a crate and is non destructive in the foster home.  Outdoor activities should involve him and hikes and walks in cool weather is key.  Once his fur grows in he will get warm very quickly. Tonka is neutered,  up to date with vaccines and 4dx tested negative.

A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance is mandatory in order to apply for Tonka.  We are looking for a cat free home.
