Tinkerbell

Hi! My Name Is Tinkerbell

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Tinkerbell.  She is a three-year-old Beagle mix weighing, 26lbs.  This little gal has a short haircoat.  Tinkerbell was brought into the shelter with 8 other dogs in a home that was deemed to be a hoarding environment.

Tinkerbell is a very passive little gal.  It was obvious when she arrived that she was extremely timid.  After a week we understood that she appeared to never have had Human Touch.  When anyone talks to her she wags her tail so hard but when you go to pet her she freezes.  She is now in a foster home with other dogs and loves the company of all of them.  She is learning to trust people from watching the other dogs.  She is not a fear-biter or a nipper.  You can see in her eyes that she wants so badly to trust and be part of the family.  Thankfully, she is a typical beagle mix and is very food motivated.  That is the way to her heart.

Tinkerbell is great with all dogs and will always need one in her life.  Another resident confident dog of any age will help her to learn to trust.  She arrived very thin and has gained weight now so you can no longer see her hip bones.  She is fed twice daily a small breed dry puppy food.  She is not fussy and will eat any brand.   We do not know if she is good with cats.  Tinkerbelle is very gentle but still will not take treats from her foster family's hands.  She waits for you to toss it.  Tinkerbell is not leash trained so a body harness is necessary so she cannot slip out of it.  She is not used to going for walks yet.  She will need a coat in the colder months.

Tinkerbell is paper trained at this point.  She is too skittish to go outside at this point and most likely doesn't appreciate the cold.  She will need a family that has the patience to take baby steps with her, teach her new things once she overcomes a milestone.  Tinkerbelle sleeps in the bedroom with her foster family in her doggie bed and blanket.

The ideal home for Tinkerbell is a quiet one.  Due to her being skittish, children would most likely frighten her at this point. A family with a resident socialized dog is vital and a family with the patience and understanding of how to work with timid dogs is very important.

Tinkerbell is spayed, up to date with vaccines, 4 DX tested negative, and has been on heartworm/flea/tick prevention since arriving in October.  She is also microchipped.

A fully fenced yard, a socialized resident canine, and a Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for our Tinkerbell.
