Harper

Hi! My Name Is Harper

We're happy to tell you that Harper has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Harper.  He is a 6-year-old Beagle that was found as a stray and had been shot in his left front leg with buckshot.  He weighs 45 lbs but should be 40lbs.  He has medium-length fur. Harper is just a wonderful boy.  He has a fantastic disposition even though he has been through so much with being shot.  He loves people and couldn't contain himself standing still for the photos at the park as he wanted to run up and say Hello to every person at the park.    He adores children and is great with other dogs but not puppies.  He doesn't bother with the feral cats outside of the foster home.  His leg was originally in a cast when vetted in the States and when he arrived to our Rescue our vet, xrayed again and decided to splint it.  It was splint for a few months and xrayed twice more.  The vet recommends removing the split to allow further healing which has happened.  He currently has a mild limp and our Vet is hopeful that in another two months it will heal that much more.  His exercise must be restricted so weight loss is a bit more difficult but he is on a weight control food and a strict diet. He gained the extra 5 pounds when he had the split on.  He is able to go for short walks on soft ground as well. Harper is fully housebroken and enjoys exploring in the yard.  He is fed twice daily and currently sleeps on a chair or couch at night.  He is a very quiet hound and loves to be with his family members more than with the foster dogs.  Cuddling with the family is his favorite pastime as he thinks he is a lap dog. The ideal home for Harper would be more of a quiet home, one with older children, or grandchildren that visit.  A low-key family is best since he shouldn't be out playing in the yard, bouncing around, etc. with his injury healing. Harper is fully vetted, up to date with vaccines, 4DX positive for Lyme, which was treated with 30 days of Doxycycline, neutered, on heartworm/flea/tick prevention, and microchipped.   A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian History of Compliance is mandatory to apply for our Harper.
