Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Shakespeare.  He is a 3 1/2 year old Australian Cattle dog.  Shakespeare has a medium length coat and was surrendered to the shelter as his owner's had a change in their lifestyle.

Shakespeare came to our Rescue with a fantastic temperament.  He was very well socialized in his previous home as he is good with dogs and children.  When he arrived he was very overweight.  He weighed 70lbs.  We had blood work done to ensure he didn't have a thyroid  condition and the results came back normal.  He has been on a Veterinarian weight loss program since arriving.  Shakespeare is fed Veterinarian Royal Canin Satiety Control twice daily.  He is down about 10lbs now so another 5lbs will be ideal.  Thankfully this fellow loves to go for hikes, walks and playing chase in the snow with other dogs.

Shakespeare loves giving and getting affection.  He is incredibly sweet. He loves to eat and perhaps was fed human food in the past.  Sticking to his diet with no treats until the weight is lost is the optimum.  He is a very obedient boy and of course being food motivated makes training a breeze.

Our boy has not been destructive in his foster home.  He does not require a crate.  He sleeps on a  doggy bed or couch currently. Shakespeare loves car rides.  We don't believe he does well with cats. He really enjoys cuddling on the couch with the family.  He is a mid energy dog, not hyper or high strung.  He rides well in the vehucle but needs more work on the leash.

The ideal home for Shakespeare is one where he get to be with family in outdoor activities as long as it is not hot outside.  He will be his parents shadow so the family must not mind a dog that follows them around the house.

A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance is mandatory in order to apply for Shakespeare.  Unfenced farm properties may be considered dependent on the dynamics of the home.

Shakespeare is neutered, up to date with vaccines, 4 DX tested negative, dewormed, blood work done and microchipped.
