Clicking with Canines

Barks and Meows Rescue highly recommends "Clicking with Canines" as their obedience training facility of choice. A few of us within this group have attended classes there and enjoyed it very much. It is a wonderful facility, with various types of classes available, and Dawn was able to teach each of us, more about our companions then we thought we already knew! She is located just outside of Mt. Brydges, Ontario. Here is a write-up from Dawn, the owner of "Clicking with Canines":

Clicking With Canines Dog Training

My goal is to teach people to train their dogs using positive reinforcement methods creating a sustained, cooperative relationship. The benefits of positive training are many; trust is built between the dog and owner and this trust can lead in many directions from family dog to performance/sport dog; communication is clear to the dog about what is expected or what different behaviour the owner desires instead of what the dog is currently doing; all dogs are smart and positive training exercises the dog’s intelligence; positive training is flexible allowing for more than one way to train a behaviour or skill; there are no limits to what positive training can achieve, any discipline can be trained (Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tracking, Hunting, Canine Freestyle, Conformation, Behaviour Modification, Basic Manners in the home etc).

A variety of training options are available in the forms of group classes, semi-private and private lessons or in-home consultations. Each dog is assessed to determine the most suitable learning format. Emphasis is put on ensuring that the dog remains in a learning state of mind and preventing the dog from reaching high levels of stress where no learning takes place. There are no time limits to training a dog; I will work with the owner and dog until realistic training goals are reached. All formats for training can lead in many directions be it towards a mannerly, well-adjusted family dog or special training to develop a dog for Obedience, Rally, Agility, Conformation etc.

The focus of my teaching is on preventing problems with a young, new or older dog to eliminate the need for remedial training. Problems or potential problems can be big or small and fall in to many different categories. I aim to prevent problems whether it is an inexperienced puppy that I can help develop positive routines and habits or with a re-homed dog where the dog has the opportunity for a fresh start and can be channeled in to acceptable habits and prevented from falling back in to old behaviours. As well as guiding a dog towards dog sports setting the dog up for successes and steering the dog in a direction that will lead towards the higher levels of the sport while avoiding habits that often need altering and can hold the dog back as the dog progresses.

I emphasize a holistic approach combining having fun with your dog, positive training and realistic goals that will enrich and complete the bond you have with your dog.
