As always,  we found another beautiful black dog in a high kill shelter.   Poor Roddy was found as a stray.  He is 1 year old and weighs 60lbs.  He is s black Shepherd mix and may have a bit of border collie in him.  He has medium length fur.

Roddy is a very good boy.  He enjoys the company of the other resident dogs in his foster home.  Roddy does best with female dogs.  The resident dogs are teaching him how to play as it is obvious he has never had that option before.  He is crated at night and when his foster family is not home.  We do not believe he would do well with kitties.

This happy guy lives to eat, which is one of his Rescues's traits.  His good is measured out and given twice daily.   He does have a bit of a sensitive tummy but does excellent on Royal Canin large breed adult food.  Chew treats work well with him. Such as bully's ticks, antlers etc.

We believe he was a rural dog,  most like a farm dog.  This type of setting would suit him best as he is a very good watch dog, as long as he was an indoor dog.  He enjoys walking g in a leash but is very protective if his owners.  His ideal home is one where he has a large fully fenced yard or a farm to avoid walking him on a leash.

Roddy is not a barker dog unless he sees something that he feels will hurt his owners.  This is a very common trait of the shepherd.   He does talk when playing with the other dogs.   He will alert you if someone comes to the door.  He rides very well in the vehicle.  He is loving and takes treats gently from your hand.

We have provided Roddy with a lot of vetting.  He is neutered, had his back dewclaws removed, had 4dx testing done with results being negative.  He had had a fecal done, which was also negative,  all vaccines including Bordetella.
Roddy is on Sentinal and dewormed monthly.

We are looking for a farm friendly home for him,  or one where he can be taken for obedience training.  A resident female dog would be ideal.  No small children as he may jump up and frighten them, is also a prerequisite.

A fully fenced yard or a farm property mandatory, as is a Veterinarian history for a current or previous pet.
